People with swallowing difficulties, including those with dysphagia arising from Parkinson’s Disease, have found that the Sipify straw helps them control the amount of liquid per sip. Their personal experience is that they choke less when using the Sipify straw and have reduced concerns or fears of accidental aspiration.*
Hear what two people living with Parkinson’s have to say about using their Sipify straw:

I have used the Sipify, and for myself as a normal swallower, it is excellent in that it allows me to control the amount of liquid per sip. That translates well for patients as it can also provide that control safety. For example, someone learning to sip from a straw can extract a small amount and swallow then as oral strength increases so can the sip. I also can use my tongue to momentarily block the mouth of the straw. That is a technique that can be used to help a patient increase tongue mobility. I have conducted a trial with one patient with Parkinson’s, who reported an easier flow of liquid compared to a regular straw.

The feedback on the Sipify from my patients was overwhelmingly positive. There were no negative comments. They liked that there were two sizes for short and tall cups, that they could use the straws with various lids, the soft tip, and the way the straw cooled hot drinks. They all said the straw makes it “easier to control my sip size.” Their care partners found them sturdy and easy to clean. The straws were a hit!

I’ve had the chance to trial Sipify with both hot and cold beverages – I found it to be a seamless transition from a regular straw (helpful as to reduce any potential “intimidation” factors for patients to try something new) – and a gentle, appropriately paced liquid flow! I will very much recommend your product for appropriate patients in the future!
